HARVEY UPDATE | Tuesday
DAILY UPDATE | Tuesday, 9.5.2017
Although rescue has completed for the city, we're working towards relief, recovery and rebuilding in different parts of the city at the same time. What does that look like at HNW?
CASH DONATIONS: Thank you to everyone who has given so generously through welovehou.com! Our goal is to raise $500,000 to give to families with no flood insurance. So far we've received $170,000 and have given $70,000 of it out already to families hit by Harvey! We are meeting with families in need to assess exactly what their needs are so we can move them from their immediate financial needs to rebuilding.
MUD OUT TEAMS: Right now we are sending out two teams a day throughout the week (Mon-Fri).
The first team leaves at 7:30 a.m. from Crossover Bible Fellowship. Why from Crossover? Many of our out of town teams are housed at Crossover so it makes it easier for the teams to leave from that campus.
The second team leaves at 5 p.m. from HNW.
If you need help or know someone who needs help mudding out a house, please go to muddingout.com/signup and fill out the online form.
SUPPLY DONATIONS: Don't believe the rumors that Houston is no longer in need of supplies - we still need them. If you're looking for a place to send supplies to in the Houston area, HNW is continuing to receive donations Mon-Thur from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. We are no longer running a drive-thru pick-up location but instead we are running a distribution center and shuttling trucks and trailers full of supplies to locations who need them.
So far we've sent shipments to Lumberton, Lufkin, the 5th Ward, Pasadena, and are continuing to identify places in need and moving forward with getting supplies to those locations. If you have supplies you'd like to send to us, contact Karen Stamps at karens@HNW.org.
HNW BUILDING: Some of you have asked what the timeline is for rebuilding and getting back into the building. Unfortunately, we're unsure as to the timeline on when that will be. As we rip out drywall, we are finding some structural damage that needs to be addressed.
Short-term Plan - We plan to use room W100 located behind the Worship Center as a Nursery (Infants-2 yrs.) starting Sunday, September 10. As soon as we can, we will use the 249 Building as a temporary space for our Preschoolers and Kids (grades K-5). And will use the Roadside area in that building for our adult & kids special needs classrooms.
Long-term Plan - We're dealing with insurance adjusters, still drying out the building and will then move into dealing with contractors. One thing we do know is that it will take longer than you may be thinking. Don't think in terms of weeks but in terms of months. Once we have a long-term plan in place, we'll communicate that to you. In the meantime, please pray for us and ask the Lord to continue to give us guidance.
SUNDAY WORSHIP: We will continue to have family services in our Worship Center on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Last Sunday was amazing! We hope you'll join us this Sunday.
